  • Gestational Diabetes

I am glad to hear that I am not alone in my itchiness!!  It is manageable these days, but still a pain!

I took the (dreaded) Gestational Diabetes test today and it wasn't bad at all!  My doctor let me eat a meal before drinking the Glucola, but the meal couldn't have sweets in it.  I ate my breakfast and then came home to drink the sugary concotion.  I was so afraid that it would be so gross I would gag, but it wasn't bad at all, in my opinion.  I had a lime one, so it tasted just like a Sonic Limeade, which I enjoy every now and then.  The worse part was having my blood drawn because I HATE needles, but that didn't even bother me.  After getting stuck so much since being pregnant, I think I am over the phobia.  So, I was glad that I didn't get sick or anything from my test and really, it was no big deal!

So, for those of you who are concerned about it, relax, it is fine!

  • Changes

No more week by week update for me.  It isn't because I don't  think the baby's or my growth is extremely interesting or anything, it is just that most of the women reading my site know all about it, so I feel that it is boring.  So, from now until Sophia's grand entrance, I am just going to update with new, interesting things that are going on in my pregnancy.  And, I may be posting some questions for those who are in this pregnancy thing with me, so hopefully I will get some responses.

My last doc. appointment I found out I was starting to have contractions, but nothing serious and nothing that I should be concerned about so, basically Braxton-Hicks.  I have been having cramps like period cramps after exercising and so I told the doc. about them yesterday.  She said they are light contractions and as I exercise I could begin to feel them.  She basically gave me guidelines on when they get serious, but otherwise she thinks I am ok.  It is just a matter of being in tune with my body.  It is so wierd to have these light contractions because I can't imagine what the "real" labor contractions are going to feel like.  The ones I have experienced are uncomfortable as it is!

I also cannot believe that I am less than 100 days to the big day!  I am really scared!  But, I know I will get through it.  It is more fear of the unknown and what my imagination is telling me!

I have also been ITCHY on my tummy and back a lot more!  I know that is normal because my skin is stretching out on my stomach, but I am not sure what is up with my back unless it is just weather change and drier skin.  It seems like when my back itches it is really itchy and I have to scratch it right then and it is frequent!  I have resorted to sitting with a fork beside me when my husband isn't home because it is so bad!  Is anyone else having this issue?

Well, that is all the interesting news so far.  More to come, I am sure!

  • Week 26

    Sophia

Your baby is now a whopping 2 pounds (almost). Your baby's crown-to-rump length is about 9-10 inches long, and her total length is about 12 inches! Your baby is now starting to add a little fat to her bones, though she won't start accumulating too much fat until the last few weeks of pregnancy.

Your baby's heart continues to grow and develop during pregnancy at 26 weeks. You may even be able to hear your baby's heart beat through a traditional stethoscope placed on your stomach by 26 weeks pregnant. Don't get too excited though, some women can go their entire pregnancy without being able to locate their baby's heartbeat using a stethoscope. The Doppler is a much more effective and efficient way of measuring your baby's heartbeat throughout pregnancy

In addition to organ maturation throughout the body, your baby's nerve pathways in her ears continue to develop during pregnancy 26 weeks which will allow your baby to respond to sounds more consistently. You might notice your baby jumping more often now to loud noises when you are 26 weeks pregnant. This is a good time to start playing some relaxing music to your little one when you have the chance. Some parents even enjoy reading to their babies during this time. If you haven't considered it, have your partner read to your belly. This will help your baby become more acclimated to the sound of your partner's voice. Believe it or not, one of the first things babies recognize outside the womb besides smell is the sound of your voice, and your partner's voice.

Your baby will continue breathing in amniotic fluid after twenty six weeks pregnant and beyond.

    Momma

Nothing new to report with me.  I am feeling her all the time, which is good.  Next week I have the dreaded Glucose test, which I hear is not fun!  This is officially my last week of the 2nd trimester!  I hope I continue to have a rather comfortable go of it, but I know I will soon grow more uncomfortable.  I cannot believe that next week I am in the final stretch!  I am praying that she comes at the end of Dec. (provided she would be healthy and ok) for a numerous amount of reasons, which makes labor and delivery even closer and scarier!!  I guess I have to go through it, though, and once it is over, I get to SEE her, which I am very anxious to do!  I think I have been experiencing some Braxton-Hicks contractions which, I read, is ok as long as they are not regular and painful.  I feel tightening every couple of days and have NO pain with it, which is good.  I will just suddenly realize that my stomach could not possible get any tighter.  It lasts for a few seconds and I don't feel it again.  And, like I said, it is not every day.  I am going to bring it up at my Mon. doc. appointment to be sure I am ok.  Otherwise, life goes on as usual!

P.S. - If you are pregnant and due close to me, have you been experiencing any kind of contracting?
